On the dating scene, chat-up lines have long been the staple ‘go-to’ for men and women alike looking to capture the attention of someone they like the look of. There are the good, the bad and the downright atrocious lines that we’ve all come across from time to time, but there’s no denying that chat-up lines do play their part in helping to bring the sexes together.
Chat- Up Lines – The Winners
1) “Hi, what’s your name?”
It may seem ridiculous, but introducing yourself with a genuine question is one of the best possible ways to attract the opposite sex. It’s genuine, it’s engaging and doesn’t suggest anything other than ‘I’d like to know your name.’ Keeping it simple is often the best way to go.
2) “I didn’t believe in love at first site. Until I saw you”
Cheesy as it may seem, this one apparently still holds sway with the ladies, with many of the women we asked claiming that they’d feel weak at the knees if this line was sent their way.
3) “I’m not drunk, I’m just intoxicated by you”
Apparently, the humour in this cheeky line is what the ladies like the most, showing a playful and fun personality. Whilst we can’t deny that we cringed a bit, it’s a winner for making the ladies smile!
4) “You look lovely”
A simple (and timeless) compliment is sure to flatter the receiver. Whilst it can seem quite forward, simply paying someone a genuine compliment on their looks is always a great way to attract their attention. Say what you think; if you think that person is the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen, tell them!
5) “I hope you know CPR, because you just took my breath away.”
Another corny one from the depths of dating history, but this classic apparently goes well down with the ladies for its humour and complementary nature.
And the ones to avoid..
1) “Did it hurt?” – “What?” – “When you fell from heaven?”
One of the most traditional chat-up lines out there, but apparently not the most successful. Of those we spoke to, this one had one of the smallest success rates; with women explaining that it was simply ‘too cheesy’ to work on them.
2) “Nice outfit, but it would look better on my bedroom floor.”
Sexually forward chat-up lines rarely work, and this is a prime example of how not to pull. Being too forthcoming about your desired intentions tends to scare-off the opposite sex, and this one is seriously lacking in charm.
3) “If I said you had a good body, would you hold it against me?”
As per the above, this line isn’t popular with either sex, and as such has minimal success rates according to our poll. A combination of being rather-too-forward and incredibly cheesy, this one could wind up getting you a slap, as opposed to a number.
4) “Get your coat, you’ve pulled.”
Feedback on this line is simply that it’s been done to death, so is known to be exactly what it is: a corny chat-up line. Many women feel the line is disingenuous and, in all honesty, lacking in effort; so try harder if you want dating success!
5) “Are you a parking ticket? Because you have fine written all over you!”
This line encompasses all the things you shouldn’t do when trying to attract the opposite sex. It’s impersonal, cheesy and, let’s be honest, doesn’t make sense!
Keep it honest; if you like the look of someone- tell them! Asking genuine questions and getting to know someone is always the best way to attract someone; so maybe leave the corny chat-up lines at the door when someone next catches your eye.
